Kavya Davuluri, Venture Development Intern

Headshot.jpg

Hi! My name is Kavya and I’m the Venture Development Intern at ID Ventures this summer. I’m a junior at Wayne State University getting a degree in psychology with concentrations in Spanish and innovation & entrepreneurship. My passions lie in empowering others to have agency in creating positive social impact. Beyond this, I love to work with global health advocacy, writing about different cultures, photographing Detroit, and starting new projects revolving around civic engagement.

I joined Invest Detroit after founding an organization, OptimizeWayne, which illuminates possibilities for budding social entrepreneurs at Wayne State to actualize their visions for their enterprises through workshops, mentoring, and funding. Through OptimizeWayne’s Social Innovation Challenge, I’ve gained a huge appreciation for startup culture and Detroit’s ecosystem.

This summer, I hope to use these to assist in program management for another successful Accelerate Michigan pitch competition and help with this Hacker Fellows cohort by creating digital media content and marketing campaigns that leverage the community’s interest in what Invest Detroit’s programs are doing to increase awareness and engagement. For Hacker Fellows specifically, I think that this won’t only pull in external folks, but will pull together the community, which I love building!

My name is Tapan, senior at Michigan State University, Class of 2018. I have always been passionate around startups. I am currently helping lead Detroit Startup Week 2018 and successfully run my own startup.

Prior to Invest Detroit, I was part of a startup called Seeva, part of TechStars Mobility Class of 2018. I helped them with Business Dev. And Go-to-Market Strategy.

At Invest Detroit Ventures my goal is to learn more about the decision and the step it takes to invest in a startup. Also, learning more about the unique value proposition added to the startup by Invest Detroit.

Adam Laird, Venture Capital Intern

My name is Adam and I am a Venture Capital Intern at Invest Detroit Ventures this summer. I attend Michigan Law School where I expect to graduate this December. My legal coursework has focused on Entrepreneurship, Venture Capital and International Development. Specifically, I have been trying to answer the question of how to entrepreneurship and strategic investing can catalyze economic development with the goal of supporting underserved communities around the globe. In my spare time, I enjoy training martial arts. I find that my practice in boxing and Brazilian jiujitsu help to clear my mind and keep me grounded.

Before law school I worked at a Bethesda, Maryland based tech startup called Spotluck. I have participated as a student attorney in the Michigan Law Community Economic Development Clinic and Entrepreneurship Clinic. Both of these experiences gave me the opportunity to provide pro-bono legal services to South Eastern Michigan innovators and social entrepreneurs. I also had the pleasure to represent the Ross School of Business in the 2018 Venture Capital Investment Competition.

I joined the ID Ventures team after working as a ZEAL Invest Detroit & Mercury Fund Fellow this past school year. That experience inspired my love for impact investing. I came to Invest Detroit because I wanted to continue to learn the art of Venture Capital from them and support an organization with a mission that I believe in. This summer, my goal is to support ID Ventures in whatever capacity is needed. I am particularly looking forward to exploring more companies and ideas, introducing myself to the SE Michigan entrepreneurial community, and sharing laughs with my coworkers.
